3 October 2013: Our new food growing project has CCF funding!!

Our new project "Gilmerton, Gracemount & Moredun Grow Stronger" has been awarded funding from the Climate Challenge Fund.

We'll be working with Bridgend Growing Communities and local community groups to encourage local food production and bring underused land into productive use.

Official announcement here (we're the last entry in the list):

9 September 2013: TES AGM

Our Annual General Meeting will be held between 7 and 9pm on Monday 9 September 2013 in the Robertson Suite at the Eric Liddell Centre, 15 Morningside Road.  We'll start with a short talk by Suzy Goodsir about the experiences of Greener Kirkcaldy, which should stimulate some thoughts on what we could do here in Edinburgh, before moving on to the formal business.

Come and join in the discussion about what's been happening and our plans for the year ahead.  You are welcome to attend as a non-member or join at the meeting (annual subscription £10).

[Update:  Minutes, and amended constitution, are now in the "About us" section of the website.]

May 2013: Morningside farmers' market opening soon!

A new community farmers' market will be starting this summer (date to be announced shortly) in the rear car park area of the Merlin at 168 Morningside Road.  The market will run on the third Saturday of each month throughout the year, and will offer a wide range of quality goods from local producers, plus cooking demonstrations, planting advice for gardeners and other special features.  [Update, 4 October:  The market got off to a slightly delayed but successful start on Saturday 21st September.  Look out for the official launch event on 19th October!]

This is a joint initiative of Morningside Traders Association, Transition Edinburgh South and Belhaven Pubs Ltd.  It will be a wonderful addition to Morningside and our local shops, and will reduce food miles, encourage people to shop locally and keep money within the local economy.

May 2013: Proposal for a new local food project

TES has put in a funding proposal, in consultation with other community groups, for a project on fruit and vegetable growing in Gilmerton, Gracemount and Moredun.  The idea is to encourage people to grow food in their own gardens initially, and in the longer term to develop community gardens on disused or underused sites.  Look out for more details!

February 2013: Website news

The loss of TES's funding in 2012 plus some technical problems led to a lack of up-to-date information on the website in recent months.

We are working to put this right, and we hope to have more current content on the site in the near future.  Meanwhile please be aware that some sections of the site may be out of date.  Apologies for any inconvenience or confusion.
